Dear Farm Friend,
We hope these Farm Letters find you healthy, happy, and warm as we move into these wintery months ahead. The chill, moist air with flecks of snow this week has been a constant reminder that winter is coming. This past month has been a tough one as Covid made its way into our family. GOOD NEWS! We all seem to be recovering. SO GRATEFUL! However, harvest has been completely different this year. For the first time ever, Mama Mattie took command of the combine to harvest the organic soybeans while Papa Archman was in a fierce battle with The Virus. The good news is, we seem to be through the worst of Covid in our house and everyone is doing better. We’re so grateful for our kind neighbors stepping in to offer a generous hand this week as we were able to wrap-up the soybean harvest. We still have some crops in the field, but hoping for some holding patterns in the weather as well as good health ahead to bring this growing season to a close.
It’s been an incredible year for the farm as we celebrated the THIRD YEAR of Firefly Fields being online this week. There’s no coincidence that we launched the farm’s website in November. November, in many ways, is the GRAND FINALE of the season. All the year’s work of tender loving care for the crops meets the great harvest moment. With still much to be done this season, we can begin to see a finish line to the crop year, where like the bees, we can start to slow down a bit, gather together more as a family, and warm each other’s spirits for a little recharge with the longer and colder nights. For now though, we’re meeting the moment and hoping this snow that seems to be accumulating this morning decides to give us a break. Not a long break, just long enough to get the final harvest out of the field.
For now, Friends, we wish you all the health and happiness in the world! Stay tuned on social media for Black Friday deals on flour online! Hoping you all have a wonderful start to this holiday season!
With gratitude,
Virginia and Ben
