Welcome to Firefly Fields, Inc.
Hello world! We are Firefly Fields, and we are SUPER excited right now! Like, Christmas morning excited! ‘WHY?’…you ask. Well, we are THRILLED to have the opportunity to bring you some of the BEST organic food products ever grown directly from the Jennings Family Farm – foods we absolutely LOVE [Check out more on the Jennings Family Farm in ‘One Family | One Farm’]. We are excited to now have an online voice, to not only share our products – but also share some of our thoughts and experiences from the farm. As we approach the 40th-year anniversary for the Jennings Family Farm in 2019, we are excited that our online platform marks a new step of continued evolution and adaptation on the farm to grow and support our little corner of the world. ‘Easily excitable,’ you say…maybe you’re right. But we prefer the word ‘passionate,’ and besides, isn’t life a LOT more FUN that way!?
So, to kick things off, we thought we would speak a little more to our goals and vision for this BLOG, as well as for Firefly Fields, Inc.
For this blog we have three main goals:
First, while we know how infatuated we all are with our social media, and Firefly Fields is part of the social mediasphere – we hope for this blog to be a place where we can have a deeper connection with our followers (and hopefully, ‘eaters’). We will share stories and experiences from the farm in hopes of providing a place where you can feel a little more connected to where your food comes from, and more informed about how it’s produced.
Second, the stuff we sell is flat out delicious, and we love to cook with it! So, we thought this could be a great place to share some of our favorite recipes. These will be posted on the blog and cataloged at the Firefly Fields Kitchen. And to go a step further, we would love to hear from you on how you love using our products. SHARE the LOVE! Send us a picture with a delicious recipe, and we will try to feature it on the website.
Third, we do sell stuff here, and will occasionally have special deals and discounts available. The best way to be privy to these will be to follow the blog and our social media accounts.
Now to wrap up this post, we wanted to briefly hit on the core values of Firefly Fields, as we think it is important for you (the consumer | the eater) to be well-informed about us (the producer | the grower).
One Source: We only sell what we grow at Jennings Family Farm in Michigan, and this is for a couple reasons. One is quality control. All the
work we do at the farm is to grow quality, organic food products, and we take this seriously. We keep the highest standards knowing that our products ultimately make it to your table. To put this in perspective, we have turned down grocers and other retailers in the past because of concerns with product handling, storage, and presentation. We know our products; how to grow them, store them, and distribute them. Our standards might be higher than most bulk retailers, and that is the standard we stick to.
Nutrient Density: The organic products we grow are only as good as they are good for us – it’s always about quality. So to make sure we have some really good stuff, we put a lot of
thought and effort into what and how we produce. Soils are first and foremost in any landscape, and this goes way beyond just throwing some N-P-K (Nitrogen, Phosphorous, & Potassium) on the fields. Each of our fields are strictly managed for soil health (a biological component), and to support nutrient availability (a chemical component) in the plants we grow. We use extended crop rotations and cover crops to support increased plant diversity and maximize soil biology. At a minimum, we follow strict USDA National Organic Program standards for managing both macronutrients (N-P-K) and even more importantly, micronutrients (Ca, Mg, S, B, Zn), to produce the most nutrient dense products. At a maximum, we go beyond these standards – tinkering, testing, and measuring new ways to ensure the most nutrient dense products.
Pure Delight: We love what we do, and when people love what they do – they usually do it pretty well. So, we certainly take delight it in our connection to the land by producing good food for great people. However, we understand that not everyone can (or wants to) get down and dirty growing food. Instead, we want you to take delight in using and sharing our raw products. But even more so, we want you to take delight in having trust and understanding in the product you get from us. Knowing how it’s grown, and what hands have handled it – gives you a connection to your food, a connection with the land that we might otherwise not have. At the end of the day, THAT is something to take DELIGHT in. Welcome to Our BLOG, and welcome to our Online Farm Store!
Sincerely,
